"Real Athletes Persevere"

Perseverance is staying focused on your goals and not giving up, even when your task is difficult.

Real Athletes train hard. They keep going, they press on and they persist in following their dreams. Sometimes the have to struggle against injuries or physical limitations. Attitudes can limit an athlete too, whether it is someone else's negative attitude or one's own. Perseverance is overcoming obstacles to reach your goals.

Examples:

• Practicing until you get it right, then practicing some more
• Never letting someone tell you that you can't
• Finding a solution even when it looks like there isn't one
• Learning from your mistakes and trying again
• Focusing on your abilities rather than your disabilities
• Never letting yourself nor your teammates down
• Finishing the race when you know you can't win
• Giving your best effort every time

Perseverance builds strength of character and confidence. It's a positive, winning attitude. Perseverance will make the difference between winning and losing on the field of play and in life.
